So. Well. I mean. It’s been a year. It’s been a hell of a year. When Taryn, Kevo, and I launched Kid Riot in October, I don’t think we really understood what we were getting into.
There’s been ups and downs, but certainly zero regrets. There are moments I can’t believe played out so well and others I sort of groan at. But at the end of the day, I’m proud. As we come up on issue 12, “Peter and the Wolf part 3,” we conclude our first planned year of stories. Some of it’s the same (Sure Shot, Howler, & Wolf; Doomerang & Cog Queen). There were surprises, too.
Kid Riot and The Evolution from ChadleyC is one of those total surprises. I’m a huge fan of ChadleyC’s storytelling, and we’re so proud of what he’s done so far. Keep an eye out later in 2015 for the conclusion to The Evolution’s first story!
Another one of those surprises came about when we decided to do prose stories with illustrations and profile pages, but we were working to the bone on Kid Riot. So it made sense to develop a venue for these, and thus Kid Riot Special Edition was born.
We loved seeing Chadley’s take on PJ so much, we began looking for another perspective on the series, and there was Tori Sheehan, who debuted with Kid Riot Special Edition 2. The reaction from readers (and our own) made the next move clear. So, after further discussion, concept art, and a lot of late nights, Kevo, Taryn, and I are excited to announce that for Kid Riot Year 2, Tori is joining The Demon Hotel in a MUCH GREATER capacity. We’d LOVE to tell you all about it, but much of it has to wait until after 12 in early September.
But before that, we’ll be debuting the newest feature from TDH – How To Be Your Own Hero, presented by The NJ State Hero Department, featuring Task Force and Goldstar, with art by Tori. Then get ready for issue 12, which, yeah, really does change everything. We have more Sure Shot in Kid Riot Special Edition, all before our first anniversary issue, the double sized Kid Riot 13, “Allies.”
It looks like Kid Riot’s moment is finally here. Thank you all for reading, and we can’t wait to give you more.
